Mission Possible is set up to give volunteers a full spectrum of the humanitarian experience which involves campaigning, fundraising and a ten day deployment abroad.
This project will take you on a journey from shaking a bucket and asking for donations on the streets of the United Kingdom to actually distributing aid in a developing country and to see first-hand exactly how much a difference a donation makes in a person’s life.
Volunteers will begin this project by fundraising which will include many activities such as street collections, organising sponsored events (walks, bikerides, haircuts, mountain climbs etc), charity dinners, family fundays for the cause allocated to them by Islamic Help.
They will then be able to deliver this aid themselves during a 7-10 day deployment abroad in a developing country. Volunteers will be given responsibility to arrange logistics to deliver this aid through Islamic Help offices abroad.
Some of the projects volunteers will be working on will be:
- Working in local schools
This would involve volunteers finding innovative ways to communicate and teach students and distribution of schooling equipment.
- Working in orphanages
This would involve volunteers putting a smile on an orphans face and taking them to places such as the local zoo and beaches which otherwise they will not usually be able to experience. This will bring happiness and joy for children who have gone through a great deal of hardship. This will also include identifying needs of orphanages and purchasing items to make the life of the orphans better.
- Malaria Prevention
This would involve volunteers distributing mosquito nets. Mosquito nets help prevent malaria which is a major disease in Africa that kills thousands every year. This will also include educating locals on how to use the nets and some tips on how to prevent malaria in general.
- Livelihood Projects
Volunteers will identify local people who they feel to be worthy of a business given to them by Islamic Help. This would provide an income for people in need to support themselves and their family and in a lot cases it will also provide for the community through the setting up of bakeries, distributing fishing nets and giving people rickshaws in order to provide a taxi service.
Once accepted on this project, there will be a two day training on an ‘Introduction to the Humanitarian World’ which will also include a briefing for the overseas deployment.
On return from the deployment you will also be invited to a one day training seminar on campaigning, fundraising and advocacy.

What previous volunteers have said about this project…
“From shaking a bucket outside a mosque to seeing a smile put on a child’s face, the trip was amazing.’’
Shahid Madni, the head of Young Muslims in Birmingham spent time with children in schools in Mafia Island.
"The people were so amazing – so warm, so welcoming. That's why so many of us want to go back... They talk so highly of all the things we've done for them. We think it was nothing, but they think it's amazing that we took time out to do something for them."
Tim Crowley, the head of Birmingham University Officer Training Corps.
