Dhu'l Hijjah And The Significance of Arafah

Islamic Help is proud to present an online webinar extolling the virtues of one of the most important days of the Islamic calendar. The month of Dhu’l Hijjah is associated with the rituals of Hajj, when the humble servants of Allah flock to the Holy Lands for a journey of spiritual purification. However, the period is still extremely important for all Muslims, even if they cannot journey to Makka. The ninth of Dhu’l Hajj is known as the Day of Arafa, a day of fasting, repentance and excessive supplications. Throughout the blessed month, Muslims remember the great figure of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who taught us an invaluable lesson in submission and sacrifice. We also remember the Hajj of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in particular the gilt-edged words he delivered in his sermon at Arafa, a sermon which perhaps has more significance today than ever before.

A brief outline of topics covered:

• Outline the spiritual importance of the month of Dhu’l Hijjah, in particular the first ten days. • Explain the significance of the plains of Arafa, and what Muslims do on the Day of Arafa (9th Dhu’l Hijjah) in terms of supplications, worship and repentance. • Elaborate on the Hajj of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and in particular the sermon he delivered in the plains of Arafa. • Reflect on the teachings of Hajj, and how we can apply them in our everyday lives.
