Emergency Aid For The Babies Of Aleppo, Syria

Islamic Help is carrying out emergency deliveries of baby milk for hundreds of infants in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo. The emergency programme will provide baby milk powder for 300 babies with each child receiving enough milk to last them for a month.

The distribution is being implemented by Islamic Help’s partner, the charity White Hands, which previously carried out a Ramadan emergency food delivery on behalf of our donors for more than 3,250 beneficiaries in the Syrian city of Ar-Rastan (picture left).

It also carried out another Islamic Help programme in Syria in which food baskets and baby milk for 112 infants at risk of malnutrition were delivered in the besieged city of Madaya where residents had resorted to eating grass because of starvation.

The plight of children in Aleppo was thrown into the international spotlight recently when this image (from the Aleppo Media Centre) of Omran Daqneesh, who had been found in rubble, was circulated worldwide. The youngster’s brother, Ali Daqneesh, died on Saturday August 20 from injuries suffered in an air strike that hit the family’s apartment three days earlier.

More than 300 civilians, including 49 children, were reported killed in Aleppo in the first three weeks of August as the fighting between opposing forces escalated. An estimated 290,000 people have been killed in Syria since the start of the conflict in March 2011.

Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, had a population of more than 2 million before the outbreak of the civil war. One of the country’s oldest and most historic settlements, it has suffered massive destruction and is at the centre of a battle between government and rebel forces. Nearly 30,000 children under the age of two are reported to be living in dire conditions in Aleppo and are at risk of malnutrition because of the conflict.

For just £20, you can provide baby milk powder to last one month for an infant in Aleppo, Syria. Please donate today.
