Surgeons of Gaza: Bearing Witness Community Iftar (Birmingham)
Saturday 28th February 2026 • Doors open at 3:30pm • Event starts at 4:00pm
Since December 2023, Islamic Help has been facilitating the deployment of specialist surgeons to Gaza, responding to one of the gravest humanitarian crises of our time. This Ramadan, we invite you to join us in person to hear their stories, directly from those who were there.
We are bringing four Bearing Witness Community Iftars to Birmingham, London, Bradford, and Glasgow. This is more than an Iftar. It is a chance to bear witness.
WHAT TO EXPECT
An intimate and powerful evening combining faith, testimony, and action.
Each event will include:
· Qur’an recitation
· Nasheeds
· First-hand stories from surgeons deployed to Gaza
· Live reflections and discussion
· Three-course Iftar dinner to open your fast.
Our speakers are frontline medics who worked under immense pressure, long days, limited resources, and constant danger - treating burns, shrapnel wounds, amputations, and life-threatening injuries inside overwhelmed hospitals.
FEATURED SURGEONS
You may recognise them from global media coverage and our campaigns:
- Dr Graeme Groom – Orthopaedic Surgeon
- Dr Andy Ferguson – GP and Public Health Specialist
Many operated 12–14 hours a day, saving lives amid chaos. Now they are sharing what they witnessed - so the truth is not lost.
WHY ATTEND
· Hear first-hand testimony from surgeons deployed since December 2023
· Gain rare insight into the realities inside Gaza’s hospitals
· Reflect, connect, and break your fast in a meaningful setting
