Position: Donor Relations Officer

Location: Birmingham

Hours: Full-time - 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday), however flexibility is required.

Salary: Negotiable

Islamic Help is a UK-based international relief and development organisation that has developed rapidly since being established in 2003. Our programmes aim to help and empower disadvantaged communities in the UK and abroad; some of the key areas we work in are emergency response, WASH, education, livelihood and environment conservation.

The Role

The Donor Relations Officer will be responsible for marketing Islamic Help’s projects and products to new and existing donors, while maintaining donor loyalty through special donor services including, but not limited to, personal visits, regular correspondence, e-alerts, newletters and updates on forthcoming events, appeals and projects.

They will have responsibility for co-ordinating and developing donor relations strategies with deliverable outcomes. Responsible to the Communications Manager, the post holder will work closely in liaison with the fundraising, international development and finance teams as well as other IH staff to deliver effective donor relations strategies that benefit and further the work of Islamic Help across the world.

Key Responsibilities

- To be up-to-date with Islamic Help’s existing and new projects, programmes, proposals and potential appeals
- To effectively attract and retain donors, by liaising with them on a regular basis
- To maintain a positive relationship between donors and Islamic Help
- To develop, implement and maintain key donor service strategies for improving service, relationships, retention and loyalty
- To assure that all donor requests are completed in an efficient and timely manner
- To keep regular track of retention activity and determine donor satisfaction
- To research and establish the requirements and interests of donors and potential donors, and what they hope to see achieved through their donations and investments
- Keep track of donor funding trends and priorities and ensure Islamic Help programmes are in line with objectives
- To identify potential funding opportunities, locally, nationally and internationally, and contribute to the development of Islamic Help’s fundraising strategy
- To regularly produce reports for the heads of Fundraising and Communications, and on request for the directors, board members and trustees
- To produce monthly reports on developments and proposals for donor attraction and retention.

Other responsibilities

- To develop and sustain the mutual understanding between Islamic Help and the public - this includes donors, partners, government bodies and other NGOs
- To complement the work of the IH communications and marketing department in producing different types of media to project the work of Islamic Help to donors, through writing promotional materials, producing brochures, leaflets and videos
- To attend events, exhibitions and conferences to represent Islamic Help within the ambit of attracting investments and potential donors
- To promote Islamic Help’s image and brand through different media
- Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post.

Person Specification

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a creative and pro-active approach, as well as a positive attitude and flexibility in performing a range of duties as and when required.

You must be a self-starter, happy to manage your workload and drive forward this work without constant supervision while working within a team environment. You must have excellent organisational skills, an eye for details and problem-solving, along with sound IT skills, knowledge and experience of using IT especially MS Office and database programs.

While experience in the charitable or/and humanitarian sector and related activities is highly desirable, the main attributes we are looking for are enthusiasm, determination and the ability to enhance the charity’s profile and meet targets as laid down by managers or directors.

Most importantly, you must possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills – oral and written - and be able to communicate effectively and develop relationships with donors, members of the public and organisations, be it in person, by phone, email or other channels.
