THE FACTS:

  • The average distance to the moon is 384 400 km, African women walk the equivalent of this and back 16 times a day just to fetch water.
  • 16 million people in Africa have no operating water supply with their source of water an average distance of 1 km away.
  • Islamic Help is supporting the ‘Water for Africa’ campaign in which we are building wells and providing people with one of the basic necessities we take for granted, water.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We want you to pick up your gear, focus your energy, and channel it by joining us and hiking through Mount Snowdon. The path we take is just a reminder of the conditions that the people in Africa have to go through constantly for something we have at leisure.

The path is designed to allow you to appreciate the feeling of what people around the world go through with such dominating factors against them, such as heat, terrain and lack of equipment. It will be a true testament of someone’s faith and belief to help.

First and foremost get yourself registered. This will secure your place on the trip as well as pay towards travel costs (a registration fee of £20)

Next step is that you need to get fundraising!! We want everyone to aim for a minimum sponsorship of £200, which shouldn’t be too difficult if you get ten people to give you £20 pound each, so get family, friends, everybody involved. Remember, the £200 target is not something you should stop at.

If you hit this target, keep going and raise as much money as possible. Not only that. You need to tell your friends, family, colleagues and other associates to join you. But be quick as places are limited!!!

PROJECT DETAILS

Islamic Help are aiming to provide safe, clean water to the people in Niger, Mali, and

Sudan. Since 2005 we have been working diligently distributing food and medical supplies and constructing water pumps.

Each well will cost £2500 and can provide water for a whole village providing safe and clean drinking water to people. Last year from our Snowdon Walk, alhumdulillah, we were able to provide four wells for the people of Africa.

From previous walks, we have been able to support areas in Africa in which water was not easy to get to. For more information on the cause, charity and other Islamic Help projects we have undertaken, please visit www.islamichelp.org.uk or call 0121 446 5682.

ACTIVITY

Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales and the highest British mountain south of the Scottish Highlands. It is used as the three peak challenge which many pursue.

There are six main routes to the summit of Snowdon; we will mainly be taking Miners Track and the Pyg Tracks for going up Snowdon. All groups will then walk down the Llanberis path.

ITINERARY

Transport is provided from Birmingham by Islamic Help, but you are more than welcome to make your own way. We will split the people into groups; each group will be allocated with a representative from Islamic Help and a mountaineering expert. We will then begin our journey.
