According to a report of the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) in 2009 the number of people suffering from, or at risk of malnutrition in the UK is 3 million. The elderly are at particular risk of malnutrition; isolation and poverty aggravate the chances of them succumbing to undernutrition or malnutrition.

Islamic Help has over the past few years partnered with and supported two organisations based in Birmingham, Balsall Heath Forum and Riverside Church, to distribute food hampers to elderly people in the Birmingham area. The hampers are distributed every Eid and at Christmas.
