Education is instrumental to breaking the cycle of poverty that so many are ensnared in. Islamic Help believes education to be a priority and works in a number of regions to provide support to those that struggle to access educational opportunity.
We ensure that every child that we sponsor under our Orphan Sponsorship Scheme is given access to schooling and to everything necessary to progress their education.
We support a number of schools in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tanzania and Sudan. In Sudan we run two schools for internally displaced children in Darfur. We have rebuilt and are running a school for orphaned children in Darul Fadilah, Gaza.
Every year hundreds of students are supported by Islamic Help as part of Mission Possible in Tanzania. Students are provided with school bags, books, stationery and are even taught by volunteers.
Our Cricket Academy in Bangladesh was set up in 2011 to provide specialist coaching and training to street children. Supported by players from the national team the Academy encourages the boys to play in local leagues and the national league. In addition lessons in English and Maths are also provided. The Academy has been very successful in raising the aspirations of the boys and in building their confidence, self-belief and self-esteem. The boys are also supported in making decisions with regards to future educational and career opportunities.
Islamic Help is in process of initiating adult educational and training programs in Bangladesh, Tanzania, North Sudan and Pakistan. Our Livelihood Projects have vocational skills training built in as they are designed to lead to self-employment. Participants are also given some business and accounting training.
